Heidi Klum was born on June 1, 1973 and grew up in Bergisch Gladbach, where her father Gunther worked for a cosmetics company. Her mother Erna is a hairdresser.
She was only 18 when she came across an ad for a modeling contest. She initially laughed at the idea, but she was persuaded to apply by a friend and she ended up with a three-year modeling contract and a very busy schedule. She soon had accumulated some important frequent flyer miles flying between the catwalks of Paris and Milan before settling in the United States.
Despite her jet-set lifestyle, Heidi insists that the usual superstar pretensions and behavior don’t apply to her. “I’ve never slept with a rock star, I’ve never been on drugs or been photographed naked,” she says. She is generally self-deprecating, she at times she can also be charming and self-confident. Before her appearance on the US TV series The Late Show With David Letterman, her curvy beauty feared she wouldn’t be funny. “My husband got the idea that I should yodel and I did,” she says. Needless to say, both the audience and the presenter, a notorious gruff, doubled over with laughter.
